To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn{Mr Robinson}4/LG18.5.29. NITRO ALLOY. Hall gives us the correct process as : (1) Heat treat material. (2) Machine parts to be nitro alloy within .045 of the finished dimension. (3) Further heat treat. (4) Machine to size and final harden. The bar herewith has the treatment (1). As test bits will you please make : .855 +0/-2 1.530 +0/-2 1.030 +0/-2 These then could be heat treated - then finish machine to : +1/2 .875 1.500 -1/2 1.000 -1/2 Final harden and inspect for distortion. We suggest that you also make four pins to F.56376 leaving .025" on the portions to be hardened, hand over to H1. for heat treatment, final machine harden and inspect. Will you please urge these pieces so that we can get an idea whether it is any use trying to get our bits hardened here. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson} | ||
