Clarifying confusion in a Chassis Complaint Conference report regarding starter switches and armature fuse circuits.

With reference to the Chassis Complaint Conference report By/NS.{Norman Scott}10/G.10.12.37 we think that the paragraphs on page (2) will cause confusion. For instance in dealing with incorrect adjustment of the starter switch, we have three separate switches to think of,

(1) Push-button switch,
(2) trigger switch (operated by the armature shaft), and
(3) main switch (operated by the trigger switch).

Incorrect sequence appertains to the push-button switch, whereas the excessive gap appertains to the trigger switch not to the main switch. Moreover, incorrect sequence results in burning of the metal contacts tending to cause a "dead" button. Also on the same page, in dealing with the necessary remedies for these faults, the report states that the switch contacts "be adjusted to within drawing limits .465 + 10" - 15"". These limits appertain to the necessary stroke required to close the contacts.

With regard to the fuse question, page 3, the report states that there has been no faults in the armature fuse circuit; this is incorrect, we have had five cases lately of dynamo fuses being continually blown due to loose connections of the regulator resistance unit. As a modification is being introduced, whereby this connection will be much improved, we recommend that this be included in all P.III cars coming into depot.
