Re. Mr. Fairey.

The brakes fitted to Mr. Fairey's car are the same as fitted to the present standard Phantom II.

When we carried out the work on his car we anticipated the Phantom II and fitted the wider brakes with ribbed drums. The point of interest on Mr. Fairey's car is that the drums were made in our own foundry. On all the production Phantom II's we use a special iron which is bought outside.

There have been times when we have thought we ought to change the drums on Mr. Fairey's car. It would be useful if you could arrange when convenient he would send the car to Cricklewood and we should like to send someone down to examine the drums.

As regards the Vulture, when we have gained more experience with this car we shall very likely ask for larger brake drums than are fitted at present, but it is much too early to make any definite statement.

As regards the Bentley, the brakes on this have been developed with the idea that we expect the drivers of that car to be of the MT. Fairey type. We do not think there will be the least trouble. If we have to depart from the present brake lining owing to the inefficiency after the car is washed, then we may have to consider the larger drums, but the present standard Bentley as delivered to-day Mr. Fairey will not have any undue wear on his brakes.

Another feature we added to Mr. Fairey's Phantom is that we fitted some special rockers to give increased valve lift. These have never been standardised because we modified the camshaft. It is interesting to note, however, they have given no trouble.
