X.4181 - Watford Magneto No. 81062 with improved location of sleeves.

Upon receipt of EFC {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} 2/T13.5.25, we wrote North & Sons giving them a copy of the report EFC {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} /WB. {Mr Brazier / Mr Bell} 13 of 13.5.25 and requested them to supply to us another magneto with an increased air gap between the pole shoes and the sleeve. In the same letter we promised that a further report on magneto 81062 will be issued when same has been duly tested on a chassis.

We are now in receipt of a letter from Norths, dated 21st inst. ref.- CHK/HC.5, in reply as follows:-

"We beg to say that theparts of the magneto No. 81062 "were fitted individually, the instructions being to "give only sufficient clearance to obtain the necessary "freedom of movement of the advance lever.

"We will prepare a further magneto for test on the "lines suggested by Mr.Clark and will send this "separately by passenger train marked for Mr.Clark's "attention.

"In the meantime we are proceeding with the manu- "facture of magnetos similar to 81062 giving the greatest "care to the elimination of noise, to the greatest "possible extent."

Will Dn. be good enough to make arrangements that when the promised further magneto arrives, it be handed to EFC. {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} forthwith and that By. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} and Mx. {John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} be also advised of its arrival.
