+217 To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} c. to HL. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}18/KW.1.11.34. Narrow Pin Crankshafts. You will shortly be receiving B.10 unit out of B-23-AE to be prepared for 10,000 miles test. Obviously one of the most important things about the test is to see the condition of the bearings at the end of the run. Unfortunately this engine has already down 20 hours on the test bed and a considerable amount of running on the road. Will you please measure up the wear on the main bearings and see if this is appreciable. If so we anticipate that they will have to be lapped in, but we should like HL. to say how much we can take off without losing the hard skin. If we lose some of the hard skin is it possible to re-nitride it without spoiling the nature of the material ? We should of course like new main bearings to be fitted throughout and new connecting rod big ends. Since we propose to standardise this narrow pin crankshaft and connecting rods if they satisfactorily pass the tests, we should like to fit the connecting rods having the larger bolts, which you prepared for the 4 bearing supercharged engine, to B-10 unit, utilising those at present in B-10 for the 4 bearing engine.
