H.H. 950 s (20 T) (S.B. 972. 14-4-20) G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} 2674 X172-9 Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} S/W: Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} C1/ML/6 10 20 Sorry we have not been able to get delivery of the Cadillac car. We have been on to the Cadillac people again, but they say that the shipment of the new type chassis is held up. In regard to the Marmion car, we have written out to America at Mr. Platford's suggestion, asking them to hand the car to Mr. Platford, so that he may bring it back with him and thus possibly save time. If you sent a car into America for a temporary entry, it would be necessary to deposit the duty but provided the car was brought out of America within six months you could obtain a refund. The R.A.C. would undertake the temporary entry of the car for us and see that everything was in order. You should bear in mind that on a chassis the duty is 30 per cent, and on a complete car it is 45 per cent; so that if there is any possibility of the car staying in the U.S.A., and the duty being paid, then it would be cheaper to have the body sent out first, and the chassis to follow. But you must be careful that they are not both sent on the same ship, or the Customs will put them together and call them a complete car, and charge 45 per cent on the whole.
