GEARBOX DIPSTICK - ALL CHASSIS

The above dipsticks as at present designed consist of a mild steel handle into which a cane extension is pressed and pegged.

This is a somewhat costly construction, principally on account of the hand work involved when pegging the dipstick, grooving, cutting to length etc., there being a time allowance of 30 minutes for these operations.

An appreciable cost reduction is obtainable by using an all steel dipstick as shown in the sketch below, comprising a length of 5/16 diameter mild steel bar on to which a flanged sleeve is sweated.

A model of this type has been produced and appears to function satisfactorily, and it is, therefore, proposed that the new dipstick be standardised on Phantom III. Wraith, and all future chassis.

It would be possible to introduced this dipstick at the commencement of "E" series Phantom III., and "B" series Wraith with negligible scrap, and without additional tool cost.
