Dear Sirs,

For the attention of Mr. Hardy.

We duly received your letter dated the 30th May, reference as above, together with the sketch you were good enough to send us, in connection with the question of the slightly tight spots on either side of the central position.

We were very interested in your letter, and we have gone further into this matter, as undoubtedly in the small gear we have sent to you recently for your Bentley car there were two such tight spots.

We are sending you herewith drawings of the actual cam track drawn to scale, and of the roller which was supplied in this Bentley Gear, drawn to 10 times full size, and we think you will find by swinging the drawing of the roller over that of the cam track that definite interference, as we suggested, does take place when the tooth comes over the central position.

The centre B on the cam track drawing is the centre from which the cam track is generated, the centre A is the centre round which the roller revolves, and the centre C is any centre which we have taken to demonstrate more clearly this tight spot. Actually when A and A on the two drawings are put in coincidence and the roller is swung round, the interference is not great enough to be very obvious, but when the centres C and C are put
