in coincidence and swung round on this centre then they are quite clear.

The whole operation is somewhat complicated, but we are of the opinion that the underlying cause is that the roller does not touch the cam on the pitch line of the roller and the cam track throughout its travel, but actually the point of contact between the two travels up and down according to the relative position of the two members.

In the central position of the rockershaft the points of contact are D and E on the two drawings. If swung round the centre C, when the side of the roller on which D is is in contact with the cam track it is at the point F, and at this same position the point G on the roller interferes with the point G on the cam track. The reason for which is obvious, that the distance from D to E, which of course is the same both in the roller and in the cam track, that is the point of contact on the two, when in the central position gives way to a distance in the second position, where the distance between the contacting faces is F to G, which distance is greater than the distance on the cam track F to G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp}

We find it extremely difficult to explain exactly what goes on in so many words, but we are hopeful that this letter with the drawings will make the matter clear to you when you have experimented with the drawings as suggested above.

Perhaps you will be good enough to return the drawings to us after you have completed your investigations.

Assuring you of our best attention at all times,

We are, Yours faithfully,
for ADAMANT ENGINEERING COMPANY LIMITED.
