ROAD DUST IN VENTILATED DYNAMOS.

The dynamo on the large bore Bentley now running in France has failed due to excessive brush wear and we think that this may have been slightly accentuated by the presence of foreign matter drawn on to the commutator by the suction of the fan.

We noticed on the dynamo removed from 21.G.IV that the whole brush gear was covered with road dust.

Will it be possible to use horizontal louvres giving indirect air access to the dynamo like the Lucas and Delco Remy dynamos to avoid deposits of dust whilst the machine is standing?
