Bailey - Chief Engineer} Oil Feed to 3rd Speed and Spigot Bushes. --------------------------------- With reference to the experiment recently made with a scoop to N.Sch.4668 to feed oil inside the 3rd motion shaft, it appears to have been demonstrated that this works sufficiently well in its present form to justify adoption, in view of the saving of expense compared with an oil pump. We understand that further experimenting with this device has had to be stopped for a time, but we hope that it will be possible to continue at an early date, so that we may know what length of scoop gives the best result. The existing scoop as shewn by our drawing is .850" long. We suggest that this be reduced to .250", also that the projection of the pipe inside the shaft should be reduced to .125". We should like to increase the delivery and also to reduce the speed at which delivery commences. HDY.{William Hardy} Hdy{William Hardy} | ||
