With reference to attached we are aware that certain brands of petrol have different anti-detonating values.

Any complaint of exceptional pinking should first be dealt with by chnge of fuel.

We consider that trials cars and customers' cars should run on the best fuel, but as regards experimental cars we have always used Shell Mex which is a low grade spirit. The reason for this is that it shows up any carburation fault quicker than the No.1 fuels. We consider the point raised by Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} as regards petrols is very important and we will carry out tests with B.P., Shell, Pratts etc. and send a Depot Sheet round giving results.
