1292 To Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Sg. {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} re Shock Absorbers and Damping. Sg {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} 8/E29.12.37 When we had lunch recently with the Retailers, at which Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} was present, one or two of them expressed the view that our cars - the Phantom in particular - could do with increased damping. What they said was that one could run about quite easily in town on a P.III with the control lever on the steering wheel in the maximum position and that the result was quite comfortable. Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} said we would look into it and I should be glad if you would consider the matter so that, next time I am up at Derby, you can tell us whether it would be difficult to increase the damping either as standard or whxtxe in the case of those people who would like to have it.
