re. 19 - G - 4.

With reference to the test of the above after 10,000 mile test, the following are our comments:-

ENGINE - very good for smooth sweet running, especially at higher speeds compared with present standard. Performance similar to standard. Signs of occasional misfire and tendency to "load up" full throttle low engine speeds.

Piston knocks - no signs hot or cold.

Starter - slips occasionally especially when engine cold but does not fail to finally start engine.

Fan Belt - we note this is slack. Has this developed in short time used. Does it not show necessity of spring loading and more range of adjustment.

BOOMS - Remarkable absence of usual boom periods.

CLUTCH - bad for slipping. Cannot be used (top gear traffic) without continuous slipping.

Side levers vibrate and change gear lever rattles at about 15 - 18 m.p.h. pick up.

Foot pedal (clutch) slight motion ( but not as bad as Phantom II with similar mounting).

SPRINGING - Considered not quite up to low rating spring standard. Front very good for riding and stability. "Jellying" no worse than standard. Rears appear to require more damping. Occasional bump on rear buffers.

Tyre pressures important, best all round running at 28 lbs. rear. 30 lbs. front. A few pounds higher makes marked difference in Jars and dithers.

BRAKES.- gentle and progressive, but not very effective. Rear brakes only seem to be fully working. Suggest servo not fully effective, suspect presence of lubricant on fabrics.
