-2- Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}3/R.25.4.38. (3) Undercut Choke Spindle. It seems to be imperative to carry out this modification to prevent chokes sticking on the Wraith. Fortunately, the standard Stromberg can easily be modified. We recommend that drawings should be prepared showing what this modification is. (4) Brakes. We want to get 3 modifications on the brakes:- (1) Halo III Servo linings. (2) Water Screen FCD.523. (3) Reduced braking to the front lever Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}508. There is also the question of the rear brake shoes, these are unsatisfactory in cast steel. We can see no reason at all why these should not be perfectly satisfactory in a good quality cast iron if the section was slightly increased. The reason we do not want to sink dies is because we are positive that the tipping shoes are unnecessary on the rear brakes of the Wraith, and are only waiting for experience on the first 100 cars to discard them. We will then sink dies, and the economy should be considerable. (5) Sideways Shake. We think that a scheme should be prepared for the transverse stays at the rear of the body and issued to Coachbuilders, as on P.III. (6) Governing Connection. A scheme for a flexible pipe to the Governor unit is being prepared. This should be detailed and issued as soon as possible. (7) Filter Mounting. The strap which secures the filter to the engine unit has had to be modified. We recommend that the modified strap should be instructed forthwith. | ||
