(3) Regarding the drawing of the aluminium head you have sent us we think the drilled boss for the valve tappet rod is better than the inserted tube, but that the former could be considerably reduced in dia. using the minimum sized hole required for the tappet rod. This head will need a lot of reconsideration in view of the aforegoing. (16) Cast out large panelled holes in the top of the crankcase above the valve tappet chambers where circular holes only at present exist. This will not affect the stiffness of the surface making the oil joint with the cyl. along this edge. We have not time at the present moment to proceed with any of this work at WW. as we are about to start on the Falcon 10. oil and water pump schemes, and we should therefore like you to carry on with it so that the job will not be stopped. The design work to be done need not wait for the conclusions regarding the length of the rod, as in any case it is desired to economise on the length of the engine in the manner stated, whether we alter the length of the rods or not.
