INCREASE IN POWER ON 20 HP. CAR.

We consider it would be unwise to hold out any hope of increase in power on the 20 HP. until we come to the new engine with the turbulent head.

Although we have had the 20 HP. car running with higher compression and other slight modifications giving more power, it was the result of that car which made R.{Sir Henry Royce} decide to re-design the engine. Therefore, if it is essential to increase the power, the obvious thing to do is to proceed with the new engine.

We could get the new engine ready in the same time as it would take to design and test a compromised scheme. This is another case however where in my opinion we cannot afford to embark on yet another scheme because of the danger of it interfering with the main programme.

The best way of getting the increased power is to reduce the number of chassis in 'O' series and push forward the new engine. We anticipate having a 20 HP. car which is satisfactory for Sales to try and having increased power in 3 or 4 weeks. The 20 HP. is expected back from France tomorrow, and we shall carry out the necessary modifications on there.

It would be interesting to know when it is anticipated to order further 20 HP. material - we could then say whether our tests would be through.
