X3989 21st. October, 1922. PROPOSED "EAGLE" ENGINE. (1) Strengthen crankcase, leaving out lightening holes in centre web, as already instructed for "Eagle" IX. Add webs from each of the cylinder holding down bosses at each side of the centre web. (2) Make new valves, and new top valve spring collars, using modified "Condor" locking arrangement. Leave out hardened pips, the end of the valve itself being hardened, as "Condor". (3) Make new valve guides, increasing the length at the top, and thickening the bottom of the inlet guide to prevent fracture. Consider altering material of inlet guide to further increase strength. (4) (a) Consider fitting new rocking levers to take "Condor" details for valve clearance adjustment. (b) Alter the angle of the lever, so that the first push for opening the valve comes more in line with the valve stem. (5) Strengthen lower camshaft drive housing. (6) (a) Fit new rotor to water pump, having stainless steel spindle, and light sweated in blades. (b) Re-design water pump entirely. (7) Add an extra bar across oil base under centre main bearing, the bar to be as high up as possible. ( Contd.) | ||
