E.Y.C. X3839 18-12-29 J.D.H.6. X46175. (180 B.N.) Failure of cells in SS{S. Smith} & ST Batteries. SS{S. Smith} Battery has completed 14,767 miles on the road & has been on our bench life test 26 months. ST Battery has ran 25,820 miles on the road & has been on our bench life test 16 months, both batteries are 3 1/2 years old. SS{S. Smith} Battery. cell no 2 Exide Threaded Rubber Rib + The positive plates were reasonably good having lost a small amount of paste, the peripheries were broken in places. The horizontal bars had grown & arched themselves, but with the ribs facing the positive plates these had not pierced the separators. they had also the apices facing inwards. The negative plates were good, but the active material was full of blow holes. It appears that gas has been locked in the plate & this has blown out the paste in the form of bubbles. Paste was found lodged on the bottom (contd) | ||
