Dear Sirs,

For the attention of Mr. Evans.

As we shall shortly be recommending Wakefields 'XL' oil for use on RR. cars, we should like you to give us technical reasons or advantages of the type and percentages of fatty oils which it contains. You will remember that Mr. Adams in his report considered that Prices oil was preferable to 'XL'. In your comments you pointed out that this was due to Prices oil having a larger percentage of fatty oils.

Why do you not have the same percentage of fatty oils as Prices?

The subject of oils is a pet of Mr. Royce's. He would be very interested in your reasons for the composition of 'XL'. At the present time he undoubtedly considers that Prices is better for our purpose - we cannot tell him that we have found any advantages in 'XL' over Prices.

We want to work successfully together - we are quite prepared to give you results of all our tests and the benefit of our experience. We should also be ready to carry out any special tests which would help you. In return we should expect you to be frank with us and let us have complete particulars of the oils we are using. If you tell us the reasons or advantages in your oil, we should know what advantages to look for.

All the information you supply us with would be treated as confidential.

Yours faithfully,
