Bearing Alloys. Replying to BY/B/G.18.12.34, we agree that the new Federal Mogul Alloy seems to have definite possibilities for car work, more particularly in view of the fact that its melting point is 1300°F.{Mr Friese} above that of our present white metal, and that it is run at white metal tolerances. At the moment we are not altogether optimistic about using lead bronze for main bearings on the Bentley, in view of the fact that it has to be run with wider clearances. We think that the smoothness of the car engine is dependent upon the main bearing clearances to a certain extent. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
