X4134 1 To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from BJ. CJ2/H11.5.22. Comparative Tests of 40/50-H.P. and Goshawk. X4134 / X285 If it has not already been done, we suggest that it would be interesting to make a series of tests in hill-climbing between the 40/50 and the Goshawk. We suggest that the 40/50 should carry an extra load proportionate to its extra horse-power; you will be able to decide what is the proper method of measuring horse-power for this purpose - whether it should be the volume swept by the pistons. The 40/50 should be lower geared. The area to wind pressure should be proportionately greater in the case of the 40/50 and the test should be made, for instance, on a hill which the Goshawk can negotiate only at slow speeds on the top gear, and again on the same hill on the second gear in both cases; and any other tests should be made which will assist us in ascertaining whether the performance of the Goshawk is satisfactory.
