X7772 To: Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} C. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} From: Oy. C. Hqr. 404-MR. Mr. Beaver is asking that this car be returned as soon as convenient to you. It is naturally desired to sell it before it becomes an obsolete model. I understand that you want to investigate the road springs and shock dampers. Personally should be very pleased to give any possible assistance in these tests. Just as a suggestion possibly the threaded shackles in front may account for some of the freedom in spring action which has been noted. These shackles are 1/16" slack diametrally and entirely free sideways. I recall that before we went to them we had numerous cases of harsh-riding S.Ghost cars on which we had bound the shackles sideways in an attempt to prevent hammer. Another reason I want to get this car shipped is that the spokes of the "Staybrite" wheels are very unsatisfactory and I want to get it to New York where new harder spokes can be fitted. Do you suppose it can be finished up to be shipped by the end of June? Can Mr. Bailey get the 6th wheel back from Dunlop's in time? Oy. Maurice Olley | ||
