WHEN REPLYING PLEASE REFER TO HWP/EM. 15th June 1932. Rs {Sir Henry Royce's Secretary} /Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 3/AD. Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd., D E R B Y. For the attention of Mr. W.A. Robotham. Dear Sirs, Referring to our letter of the 18th May, we have now been further into the matter of Shock Absorbers, and have taken indicator diagrams of MP3.type, following what we believe to be the system that you adopt for obtaining the indicator pressure in the working chamber. So far our results have not agreed with those which you kindly shewed us as being obtained on your test rig, and we should be glad if you would give us an opportunity of discussing the matter with you at Derby to see whether we can find out wherein the difference lies between the two methods of obtaining records. In the meantime, would it be of interest for you to try our latest "MP" instrument on one of your test rigs, so that you could ascertain whether the faults which you found on the earlier ones still persist. We could also send you a spring loaded valve type if you are still of the opinion that this is the desirable form of damping for your car. Yours faithfully, JOSEPH LUCAS LTD. H.W. Pitt | ||
