Re. Clutches.

21-G-4 was specially sent to London on its return from France for a test on the clutch. We attach herewith copy of the report. We did not agree with the report and have never considered standardising this clutch for the 25 HP.

Lp{Mr Lappin}'s car has been fitted with this type of clutch for six months. It was specially fitted to that car in order to get experience under London traffic conditions. There is one alteration on the clutch fitted to Lp{Mr Lappin}'s car compared to the one on 21-G-4 - the friction material is of different quality. We are fitting similar material to 21-G-4 and we think it is very probable that the clutch will then be satisfactory.

Lately we have been taking a great interest in clutches and as a result we do not consider any of our designs are as good or as economical as they might be. The Buick has an exceptionally smooth clutch and we have been carrying out tests which show that not only does it retain its smoothness but it is also very difficult to destroy.

We attach herewith a note from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} on car clutches general.
