You will have seen that the London test of the modified clutch on 21-G-4 has shown it to be less satisfactory than the present standard. This is naturally very disappointing.

Reference to the daily reports of the 15,000miles trial indicates that the clutch was by no means satisfactory on test.

I do not quite understand why we are having this difficulty in getting our clutch right in view of the fact that on these inexpensive American cars, several examples of which you have had at Derby, they appear to provide clutches which operate very satisfactorily.

I should be interested to know what the chief differences are between what they use and what we use.

Will Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} please say why this London test of clutch was omitted from the 15,000 miles test?

I had to ask O.{Mr Oldham} specially to see that it was done as I only heard that it had not been done after the car had gone back to Derby.

I thought it was agreed years ago after the Phantom plug trouble that such a test formedpart of these 15,000 miles trials.
