GOVERNOR ASSEMBLY.

The governor should be dismantled after the last test and the springs placed in position. The correct spring setting is a set up of 8° from the free position of the spring. The setting is accomplished by rotating washer E.72474 and clamping it in the required position.
As the measurement of so small a deflection is difficult, it is best to employ a simple check on the setting.
To do this the governor spindle should be held vertically and the weights brought together by means of the finger and thumb. They should then be gradually released and if the spring setting is correct, the weights should just return to their zero position as indicated on E.72657.
To test the assembled governor, a light spring balance reading to 2 ozs. should be attached to the extremity of lever E.72459 at the location of Pin K.6303.

The pull required to :-
(a) Just start to move the lever up -
(b) just bring the weights together -
(c) just allow the weights to separate -
should then be taken.

The readings should be :-
(a) .625 lbs. ± 2 ozs.
(b) 4.25 lbs. ± 4 ozs.
(c) 2.75 lbs. ± 4 ozs.

It is important that reading (a) should not be above .75 lbs. otherwise the ignition advance will not commence early enough
