OIL RELAY MECHANISM.

When the chamber E.72376 containing this element is in position, the distance of the extremity of the lever E.72459 from the face of the chamber to the centre of Pin K.6303 should be measured by means of a depth gauge. The distance should be - Zero position 1.050" ± .020".

ZERO POSITION OF INNER PISTON.

The zero position of inner piston E.72503 is dictated by the length of rod E.72549. The length of this rod should be adjusted so that as soon as any oil pressure is communicated to chamber E.72376, the large piston E.72509 rises a small amount, thereby moving lever E.72518 through 1.5°. An approximate setting for the length of this rod may be obtained by adjusting it so that the distance from the centre of pin K.6303 to the top of piston E.72503 is .265".

TESTING OF COMPLETE UNITS.

To test this unit a supply of Lard Oil at 15° - 20°C and 20 lbs/sq.in. will be required for the relay. The governor and relay should be mounted as a complete unit and a drive arranged for the governor which will rotate it at from 200 r.p.m. to 1500 r.p.m. The advance that will be transmitted to the ignitions by means of the oil relay can best be observed by means of a quadrant and extension from lever E.72518. The zero position of the extension should be noted and oil under pressure then
