Will you please examine the fractured steering roller which we have handed to you and let us know whether the condition of the material is as it should be.

The part is from an experimental Bentley steering gear supplied to us by Messrs. The Adamant Engineer Co. and the material specification should be

Carbon 0.10 to 0.20
Sulphur not more than .0.04.
Phosphorous " " " 0.04
Chromium 0.75 to 1.1%
Nickel 2.75 to 4.0
Manganere 0.3 to .05
Silicin Not more than 0.3

Case hardened all over to a depth of 0.035 - 0.045.
