-2- (1) Very poor bedding of inner races on jaws of rockershaft. (2) Width over both inner races, considerably less than width between jaws of shaft. (3) Roller contacting mainly on one inner face and one outer face. (4) Grinding of ball race tracks on either roller or inner races such as to cause contact as in sketch below. We consider that feature No.4 is the most serious as this was the cause of the spongy fealing which we complained and also would cause a very large bursting stress in the roller. We examined the working of the gear with the rockershaft cover removed and could see that the roller was tilting visibly on its bearings although it was not actually slack under no load. We hope you will be able to return this shaft to us with a new roller as soon as possible as we are very anxious to refit it to the car. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
