X6135. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Les.3/MA. May 9th, 1932. Messrs. S. Smith & Sons, Cricklewood Works, London, N.W.2. Dear Sirs, The first 2 petrol gauges to be fitted to production instrument patches have caused trouble from the dials becoming loose from the casings of the instruments. We realize that this does not happen provided very great care is taken in fitting and removing the instruments. However such care is quite impractical when dealing with cars all over the World. We are still waiting for you to submit samples of improved dial fixings. We understand that the petrol gauge which causes the most trouble has a thinner dial than the rest of the instruments. We cannot understand why this is necessary. We suggest that the thickness of the petrol gauge dial should be increased to the thickness of the remaining instruments immediately if it is possible. We feel that something should be done to improve the fitting of all the dials, but at the moment we should pay particular attention to the petrol gauge. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
