Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Les.6/MA.9. 5. 32. INSTRUMENT PATCH FOR 'U' SERIES 25HP. X6141 The Test Dept. have received the first complete U.series instrument Patch, and have complained to us with regard to the functioning of the petrol gauge. On examination we find that the trouble is caused from the dial becoming loose from the casing of the instruments. 2 petrol gauges have been affected like this in the same instrument patch. As we know the dial on these particular instruments were quite firm when the instruments were handed to production, the trouble takes place when the instrument is fitted or removed from the instrument patch. We pointed out in our Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Les.1/MA.30.4.32, that there was a tendency for the dials to become loose from the casings, especially the petrol gauge. It is quite evident that more care must be taken in fitting and removing these instruments. The petrol gauge which has a thinner dial than the rest of the instruments, requires the greatest care. The trouble actually takes place when turning the instruments into an upright position in the patch. We have taken the matter up with the Makers, although we consider the present method of dial fitting quite satisfactory if care is taken in fitting and removing the instruments.
