Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} has asked me to send you a means of reducing the Bentley shock damper loads. I am therefore despatching to you a complete hand control unit for the governor unit. By unscrewing the hexagon above the pipe connection to the unit, this piece can be exchanged. Perhaps you will let me know if this is the kind of thing required.

This Bentley shock damper increased initial load setting is rather difficult to follow, as your new high initial load is less than that supplied by the governor at high speeds. I understand from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} that you are fully aware of this, but should be very grateful if you could give a little more detail in your criticism against our governor system. If you say that 100 lbs. initial load is better than 100 lbs. load supplied from the governor, in what respect is it better ?

I should expect the fixed load 100 lbs. to be better for braking, particularly very violent braking, but so far cannot find any difference in other respects.

Perhaps if you are unable to say off hand definitely the peculiarities of each method of 100 lbs. setting, you would try to collect general information on this point.

Bentley shock damper criticisms are very strange, and very seldom the same. Rather than adjust one particular feature to suit your conditions, which are exactly the opposite to what is required in this country, I want to try and find where the trouble really lies, so that a car from this country can be reasonably satisfactory in France.
