Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd., DERBY. Dear Sirs, We beg to thank you for your letter of the 24th inst., re tests on Aluminium-Tin bearings. At the present time the connecting rods are in our Machine Shop as we are endeavouring to make a slight modification to the oil holes drilled in the connecting rod for the lubrication of the little end bearing. The change which we propose to make will not effect the quantity of oil supplied to the big end but should have the effect of preventing foreign matter from the big end bolt holes being carried into the bearing when the connecting rod is at the bottom of the stroke. We feel sure that if we can successfully carry out this modification, it will give your bearings a much better chance than they would have under the existing arrangement. Directly we have made these modifications we can then bore the bearings to size, and proceed with the assembly of the engine. We will advise you directly we are ready to commence tests and again when the initial running-in period has been passed so that you will be in a position to make examinations at any time you so desire. Yours faithfully, DENNIS BROTHERS LIMITED. [Signature] [Left margin text]: CUSTOMERS VEHICLES DRIVEN AT OWNER'S RISK ONLY. | ||
