ORIGINAL TO HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}) FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} (Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence.) c.c to WCR. RG.{Mr Rowledge} Mr. Claremont. BRAKES ADJUSTMENT. It is possible, and I think practical, to make all six brakes on a car adjust themselves automatically, for wear and for original setting, thus - Say back axle. Pull lever loose on shaft, a spring holding this against axle tube, or rope tight in off position. [Diagram Labels] Spring to keep face ratchet teeth in mesh. Brake expanding cam. Fine ratchet wheel keyed to shaft with pre-determined slack, can move forward but not backward, pawl control. Is it worth a patent? Would it please Col. Rushton? It can be arranged very neatly, and enclosed in a vaseline filled enclosing chamber. It has very few extra parts, saves some elsewhere, and always keeps levers at correct angles.
