X3701 X6037 H5/TB/15.8.23 S/W. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Re:- Sir Egerton H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Graeme, Bt.{Capt. J. S. Burt - Engineer}, Bachelor's Club, Piccadilly, London, W. Further to my memo H1/TB/19.7.23. There has been some misunderstanding by Sir Egerton as to what was arranged when he called here, and of which I advised you. Instead of sending to you the petrol filter of which he shewed me a sample, he seems to have been under the impression that I wanted to see a larger size first of all. He further called here to-day bringing the first sample and another larger one, said to be suitable for 350 HP. Aero Engines. To avoid further trouble, I am sending you under separate cover both of these filters, in order that you may carry on as already arranged, and in due course report to CJ. Sir Egerton was anxious to have information, which you will no doubt be able to give him, as to where he can procure the special monel metal gauze which we ourselves are using on car filters, as he thinks his filter would be improved by the use of it. We suggested indeed to him that you would willingly have the larger filter fitted with one of our gauzes before testing it, and as CJ. is interested in the matter perhaps you would like to do this The filter itself will hardly need any explanation to you, but the general idea is, as you will see, that the petrol rises on the outside of the gauze, so that any dirt is always visible, and that, if water collects outside, the little bolt floats in it, though not in petrol.
