- 3 - Carburetter & fittings to L.O.P. E.53300. Fittings are O.K. After approx. 5,000 miles, filter was taken out & examined. This was found to be practically clean, one small piece of fluff only being found on the gauze. The drain nut under the gauze was found to be full of sand. Carburetter has functioned O.K. during continuation of test. Fan bracket, fan & fan belt. These are still in good condition. Fan belt has been tightened up three turns of adjusting screw during continuation of test. No trouble has been experienced whatsoever. Magneto & drive to L.H.C. 2088. The drive is quite satisfactory. Magneto was put into operation on one occasion & was misfiring, due to dirty contact points. Dynamo. Dynamo ceased to function once or twice. No definite cause has been obtainable. The control brush has been attended to, as instructed, and electrical cut-out points examined, which were found to be in good condition. Failures have been chiefly at beginning of morning's run, the dynamo starting to function after short time on road, and continuing to function O.K. during rest of run. Oil pump. New oil pump & casing to L.S.C. 2063. Oil pump has continued to work satisfactorily. Oil relief valve enclosed in same seems to be too sensitive - oil pressure varies considerably. Examination of valve does not shew any cause for this. After cleaning valve, pressure remains steady for sometime, after which at low speeds pressure again drops. Battery ignition. We have had no trouble with battery ignition, and the contact points are in good condition. Bonnet & fittings. Bonnet remains in good condition. The N.S. bonnet strip has cracked across close to base of radiator, also at centre of strip. The metal appears to be too thin to withstand the continual strain of bonnet & distortion. O.S. bonnet strip is cracked where attached to valances of front wing. Engine guards. These have not been altered since our last report. We recommend that a felt pad should be rivetted on to side of guards nearest engine case. | ||
