FC, WA.{Mr Wallis}61. 14.7.24. TEMPERATURE TESTS ON COILS IN STABALITE AND ELO CASES. Further to WA.{Mr Wallis}60 a test has been made at temperatures of 77°C and 87°C on a stabalite encased coil (Z type) No. 3713 and an original Gos. coil in a case of Elo material (No. G.II.21.) which has been lying in Mr. Brock's Dept. for a considerable time. The test conditions were the same as reported in WA.{Mr Wallis}60 and the results are as follows :- Temperature 77°C. Coil No. Volts. Max. regular sparking gap. 3713. 8 5.0 mm. G.II.21. 8 Occasionally on gap No.1 (4.0 mm.) 3713 12 6.5 mm. G.II.21. 12 6.5 mm. Temperature 87°C. 3713 8 4.0 mm. G.II.21. 8 No sparks at all on gaps. 3713. 12 6.5 mm. G.II.21. 12 5.0 mm. It will be seen that this Elo material has not improved appreciably with age as expected, the results as recorded above showing the coil (G.II.21) to be considerably inferior to the stabalite encased coil No. 3713.
