[Handwritten note] K.W. Can you trace this drawing at all. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} [Stamped Address] ORME DRIVE, ESHER, SURREY. Phone: Esher 903. 15/11/35 Mr. Rowbotham Rolls-Royce Ltd., Derby. Dear Sir:- About two weeks ago, I called at the works with the rough drawings of an invention of mine, the Brookfield Windscreen Defroster. If you no longer require it, I should be much obliged if you would be so kind as to send it back to me at your earliest convenience, as other makers interested in it, and I happen to be rather limited for copies. Should you intend to use it (incidently it is fully patented) I should ask the following terms, £qtp advance for expenses, and royalties amounting to one sixth of the cost of each fitting. I have one working experimentally, and it is very effective. Unlike a similar Swedish device it does not transmit engine noises into the body, and it scores over electric defrosters in that it clears the whole screen, and not just a small portion. It would be especially useful in cars exported to cold countries. I may add that when turned off, there is no danger of heating the car in summer. Hoping I shall hear from you in due course, I am Yours faithfully J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} Carr Brookfield | ||
