NEW PHANTOMCodename for PHANTOM I SPARE WHEEL CARRIER.

With reference to our BY1C/H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 18.1.26. Mr.Booth has investigated this matter and the position as we know it in regard to the side spare wheel carrier which it is proposed to standardize does not agree with what is shown on the blueprint supplied by the Experimental Dept.

[Handwritten note in margin: Noting]
The position of the single arm type of spare wheel carrier as shown on drawing F.73939 was to suit the requirements of the coachwork being mounted on a 40/50 chassis supplied to Armstrong Siddeley.

Drawing No.F.73443 shows the double arm spare wheel carrier for all types of steering and the distance from the Centre of the wheel to the front of the dash as shown on this drawing is only .050" from the dimension specified on the blueprint provided by the Experimental Dept. namely, 5.350"

We agree that the Goshawk type of bonnet clips are required for the double arm scheme [handwritten insertion: as instructed in a,s]

Drawing F.73326 shows the single arm spare wheel carrier for "D" type only, and we do not see how this type can be fixed at a distance of 5.350" and in front of dash, as the bracket would coincide with the front step iron, which in the case of the double arm scheme comes immediately between the two brackets.

The position selected for the single arm carrier [handwritten insertion: is] immediately in line with the front edge of the dashboard for "D" type and as shown on F.73326 but "B" and "C" type is intended to be fitted at a distance of 8.850" forward from the back edge of the dash.

Goshawk type bonnet clips are required for "B" and "C" type single arm spare wheel carriers, but not for "D" type.

We have written the above in order to get the issue made perfectly clear, and so that we shall be in agreement.
