Re: Bentley V.{VIENNA} 'Corniche' - 14.B.V.

With reference to the photograph which you sent to us of the front compartment shewing the brake and gear levers, we hasten to assure you that we are in entire agreement with your remarks. In fact we think the condition so bad that we wish to alter this first car.

It has been agreed to move out bodily the brake lever on the side of the frame, together with its ratchet gear 5".

With respect to the change speed lever and the gate, we propose to move this out on a bracket on the frame without modification, also an amount of 5".

Will you please cable us by return whether the body as built will permit of the figures we quote, and if not, give us a suitable figure for each lever. The points to be watched are, whether the bottom side of the body will foul the lower parts of the levers, and whether the lever knobs will foul the inside of the door.

We would be glad if you would remove the brake lever and gear lever and quadrant and build the driving seat out to a width to suit the levers moved out 5" as proposed, or to whatever amount other than 5" that you may request of us by cable.

With respect to the screen wiper, when M.Paulin was last in England, he took back with him particulars of the standard Lucas wiper which he said he thought it would be possible to make operate on a slightly veed screen. We take it that he has not succeeded, and as an insurance policy Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies} is forwarding to you a second Lucas wiper so that if necessary you can fit up two separate and independent electric wipers. The disadvantage of this scheme is that the blades will not be synchronised.

Cont'd....
