BRAKE TEST IN FORWARD AND REVERSE DIRECTION. (The following text is struck through and overwritten with largely illegible handwritten notes): The footbrake and handbrake will be tested separate-ly [handwritten: 17] with the gear lever in neutral position on a gradient of 1 in 5 from a minimum initial speed of 5 m.p.h. each brake will be independently tested to determine the distance in yards neces-sary to bring the vehicle to rest. The loaded vehicle will be controlled by the continuous application of one brake only for the distance of a mile at an average speed of 10 m.p.h. average gradient 1 in 12. [handwritten: 18] 5. RESTARTING TEST. (a) (The following text is struck through and overwritten with largely illegible handwritten notes): The vehicle will be stopped and restarted from rest either in forward or reverse gears on a gradient of 1 in 5 without any external aid. 6. FUEL CONSUMPTION. (d) (The following text is struck through and overwritten with largely illegible handwritten notes): The fuel consumption test will be taken from time to time at the discretion of the inspector. Fittings must be pro-vided connecting a special gallon petrol tank. 7. 1000 MILES TRIAL. (Title is struck through) (The following text is struck through and overwritten with largely illegible handwritten notes): These will be conducted mainly to test the application of non-skids and their attachment, over-heating of radiator, spring mounting arrangements, strength of frame and capability of chassis to stand ready use in general. The trial will include some of (a) A 25 miles trial over soft sand and bad "goings", ascending and descending a sand drift of at one end of course. (b) A drive of some 20 miles will be made with indif-ferent surface, gradient not exceeding 1 in 10. (The following text is struck through): This vehicle is expected to be capable of driving through wide running water just deep enough to enter the exhaust at a speed of 12 m.p.h. During the entire test there must not be change in gear ratios, ignition, carburetter, or any fixed detail of the armoured car or its equipment. This shall not be interpreted as prohibiting the dismantling or insulation of spark and throttle gear control levers. No mechanical or structural al-terations will be permitted in the vehicle during the trials, without approval. Bottom Left: Vero | ||
