INDIA OFFICE. TRIAL CONDITIONS OF ROLLS-ROYCE ARMOURED CARS. FITTED WITH MODIFIED REAR AXLE. The following is a schedule of tests which will be applied to the vehicle, fully loaded where not otherwise stated. 1. WEIGHTS Weights will be ascertained for front and rear axles separately in respect of (a) The Chassis. The chassis weight will be taken with all tanks empty, without batteries, but to include front mudguards, dashboard, tyres, lamp brackets and towing attachments. (b) The Vehicle Fully Loaded. That is loaded up to represent chassis, plus weight of armoured body, plus guns, plus ammunition, plus crew, and impediments, such as general equipment. This load should not exceed 4 tons 6 cwts. 2. SPEED TEST The vehicle fully loaded will be tested for (a) Speed in m.p.h. from a flying start for a distance of at least 1 mile on a level road. For purposes of this test the level road will be taken as one in which the gradient does not exceed 1 in 50 at any part. (b) The average speed in m.p.h. maintained for a period of 2 hours over a selected route consisting of average main roads of a hard surface which will include gradients not exceeding 1 in 6. 3. HILL CLIMBING TEST (a) The vehicle fully loaded will be tested for average speed in m.p.h. up a hill gradient of 1 in 6 on hard road surface for a distance of 1/2 mile and it must be capable of climbing a gradient of 1 in 4 fully loaded for a distance not exceeding 30 yards. | ||
