Radiator (Continued).

Radiator movement, which had been excessive while the stays were on, was reduced to a minimum when running without them. Should a single, central stay be considered ?

The wire conduits had been fouled by the exhaust downtake pipes on each side.

CHASSIS SECTION.

Front Axle LOP.G.83342.

General condition good.

The Pivot Bearings, top and bottom, on both sides were well lubricated and in good condition.

The Yoke Bearings, produced in Bronze - replacing needle rollers, Ex.26007 Bushes and Ex.26009 Pins in the bottom Yoke Bearing were worn as shown on chart Ex.I.222 herewith. Apart from wear, the condition was good. The wear was primarily caused by end play in the Top Yoke Bearings, which had been changed from plain bronze bearings to needle rollers (while in France), not being adjusted correctly, so that the Fulcrum Pins were allowed to move fore and aft, not only causing wear on the bottom bearings but also deeply grooving the yokes on the top rear faces.

The condition of the top needle roller bearings was satisfactory; the mileage was only 1,000 miles; lubrication was poor due to leakage from faulty adjustment as stated above.

Front Brakes LOP.G.83068.

The condition of the Brake Gear throughout was good. Adjustment used was - O.S. 33 half turns. N.S. 29 half turns.

The M.L. Brake Linings and Chromidium Drums were in a satisfactory condition, wear being small for the mileage.

All bearings were in good condition and lubrication was good.
