Hms. Derby. Ft.5/FM-16/8/27. C. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Derby. E.F. Derby By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Derby Whr.{Mr Wheeler} London G.H.D. London. Several owners and drivers here have excused themselves for bad gear changing by raising an objection to the fact that the clutch pedal is harder to reach than the brake pedal. Certainly in several old cars I have driven it is necessary to wriggle forward on the cushion and brace one's back against the squab to enable one to sufficiently depress this pedal. This is noticeable even in cars which have not got the squab too far away from the steering wheel for comfortable driving. Is there any reason why this difference in pedal position should not be altered? In several cases customers have fitted wooden blocks upon the clutch pedal to make same equal in height to brake pedal, and I must say from my own personal point of view this is preferable and less tiring when driving with the clutch held out.
