Committee discusses a failed front wheel bearing, its cause, and the cost of replacement for a customer.

PAGE 3. had failed. He also submitted the broken balls and the races. The letter stated that the failure was discovered on dismantling the front wheel, owing to a noise complained of by the owner. The Committee inspected the balls submitted, and were of the opinion that the race had given good service and had probably failed through the etching of the balls, possible by moisture or by a slight amount of acid contained in the grease or oil used, but that the failure did not indicate faulty workmanship or material. They therefore agreed that the replacement should be charged for, but at cost price. Mr Platford did not agree to this procedure, and thought we should forego our establishment charges, | ||
