re ENGINES IN SERVICE PRIOR TO KESTREL V,VI,VIII,IX & X & USE OF LEADED FUEL.

We have been requested by the Air Ministry to give them any information or experience we have had in running engines prior to the above type on leaded fuel.

As far as the British R.A.F. is concerned this has not been condoned, but it has been understood that there have been several occasions when engines for special purposes, such as races or demonstrations, have used leaded fuel.

We should be glad if you could supply us with the particulars of the amount of lead that was used, octane value of the fuel (if at all possible), and length of running that took place and under what conditions; also what harm or effect on the engine as shown by the running or condition when inspected afterwards, or when overhauled, which may have been caused by the use of such leaded fuel.
