General development work, which includes the elimination of noises in the car, brakes, clutch, steering, suspension, engine mounting and slow running. 15,000 Miles' Test 22.G.VI. The body has now been mounted on this chassis. The engine unit is on the test bench. As anticipated this car will be completed by the end of the month. 25/30. Experiments concluded to prevent the irregular idling pulsations of the engine reaching the passengers. Tests carried out to eliminate popping in the silencer. Depot Sheet issued. Investigations in progress to improve petrol consumption. 18.G.IV. Stripped on completion of 20,000 miles' running on Hall's metal bearings. Big ends on a soft crankshaft. Results satisfactory, report being issued. BENTLEY. Oil consumption tests. Tests on the American type clutch plates. Experiments on the American type brake lining to eliminate brake squeaks. Modifications tried to eliminate relief valve noise when starting up, and to prevent the drop in oil pressure when the external filter is fitted. Tests on Gordon Armstrong Shock Absorbers. Cheaper rear road springs. Girling Brake layout. Light alloy drums. Vacuum servo for use if required on the Phoenix gearbox. Intensive rig tests on rear axle to eliminate known faults. Tests on wheel drivers. OTHER MAKES OF CARS. CHEVROLET. The engine unit has been stripped for examination, and much useful information obtained from the valve gear. A complete weight analysis of the engine unit has been circulated. We also obtained information from the American type of self-energising brake. | ||
