b) Benzol. - The commercial benzol must be free from any addition of petrol and comply with the following specifications which are those of the French Union of benzol producers;

I. - Density ................... between 0.865 and 0.885 at 15 degrees c.
II. - Colour .................... colourless, barely tinted
III. - Water .................... none
IV. - Fractionating, commencing above 65 degrees
60 % at least ............. below 100 degrees centigrade
85 % at least ............. below 140 degrees "
95 % at least ............. below 170 degrees "
V.{VIENNA} - Neutrality ................ neutral in acids and alkalies
VI. - a) Free sulphur ........... mere traces of free sulphur, no H2 S
b) Total sulphur content ... 0.5 % maximum in weight
VII. - Residue after evaporation .. 5 milligrams per 100 cubic centimètres maximum
VIII. - Sulphonate residue ........ negligible black residue

c) " Super-Esso " super motor-fuel

d) Ternary fuel. - The ternary fuel will be constituted by a mixture of touring petrol, commercial benzol and dehydrated ethyl alcohol at 99.4 degrees at least, to be composed of the proportions, in volume, of 64 % touring fuel, 18 % benzol and 18 % ethyl alcohol.

e) " Standard " Gasoil.- As specified by the Decree dated 29th. May 1935 : the product resulting from the treatment of mineral oils having a natural yellow, brown or blackish colour, the Luchaire flash point of which is comprised between 50 and 110 degrees centigrade and containing 30 % or less in volume of portions distilling below 255 degrees centigrade when employing the standardised method (variant of the Saybolt balloon-flask).

These fuels, supplied by the Société Anonyme des pétroles Jupiter (Shell) will be supplied against payment and at the prices fixed by that Company before and during the race through the Automobile Club de l'Ouest.

Articles 8, 8-A to 8-0 stipulate the details and conditions of this distribution but competitors should note at once that they will have to pay in cash, during the operation of checking, a cash deposit for the fuel to be supplied to them during the race.
