X.4159 BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} C. to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} C. to DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} 96FE COPY. EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}15/F24.6.20. X.4159 RE. SIMMS MAGNETIC PETROL GAUGES. X.3451 With reference to the above, we have noted the contents of your BY7/H23.6.20 and Mr. Hives' memo Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1/LG24.6.20. We had dictated a memo. to you on this subject, which we have now cancelled in view of these memos. The only points it is now necessary to bring to your attention in connections this this are as follows - We urgently require a supply of the dummy plugs, and have one car now waiting for delivery. There are three cars at present in London fitted with the Simms Magneto Gauges. We are arranging for the gauges taken from the chassis on test, No.59-BW, to be sent to your office to be dealt with. We have asked Mr. Evans to return the petrol gauges from the chassis which have already been delivered i.e. 27-CW, 39-BW, and 22-FW. We shall be glad to know what it is decided shall be done to put these gauges in order so that we can make arrangements to put in order the three cars already delivered, and the 4th. car which we expect to deliver within the next day or two, all of which will be temporarily rigged up with dummy plugs as soon as we can get these from the works, whom we understand have already been instructed to supply them. A further point we should like to bring to your attention in connection with the gauges, is that the fibre compresses and the position of the gauge dial is liable to vary and is not always in a convenient position for reading.
